Summer Ends Tahoe Trip

This past week we went with Kiel and Melissa to Tahoe for a last Summer trip before the school year starts up again this coming Tuesday. We started our trip Wednesday morning around 11am. Kiel and Melissa met up at our place and we headed out together, a walkie talkie in each car so we could communicate on the way. We made several stops for diaper changes and potty brakes. We arrived at a small playground near Squaw Valley around 3pm and decided to let Sydney out to play a little on the playground and let Bruce and Rhyan sleep.
Then we headed over to our check in near Northstar Tahoe Resort and picked up our keys to our 2 bedroom 2 bath townhome we were going to be staying at for the next two days.
The townhouse was so nice! Perfect in fact for the kids and us. The only thing that would have been nice to have was a babygate. The kitchen and living room and one of the bathrooms was on the upper level and the bedrooms and other bathroom on the lower level. Wednesday evening we just chilled and Gabe and I made dinner.
That night was AWFUL! I didn't sleep at all and Gabe got minimal sleep I think after resorting to sleeping on the floor. Sydney was just crying and screaming and didn't want to sleep on the floor but up on the twin beds, which we pushed together. So I slept on one half of the beds while Sydney sprawled herself out across the other half of mine and the other bed entirely. She jabbed me in the stomach and back several times and I received a round house kick to the face once during the night. I seriously had that inner urge to do some spanking. I'm sure all you parents know that feeling. I just wanted to sleep!!
Thursday morning we got breakfast, and we got all ready for our hike, all of us on very little sleep, and we headed out around 10am. We found a trail about 20 minutes down the east side of the lake called the Skunk Harbor Trail. It was labeled as Easy and only 1.5 miles. It was 1.5 miles alright, but easy?? I think not. The way down of course was, since it was all downhill.
Here we are, ready to head out on the trail!

The trail...
Still trekking...

We arrived at the harbor. The kids really enjoyed the way down.
Skunk Harbor was beautiful! And the water didn't bother the kids at all...

... not until Sydney fell in all the way and couldn't stand up again, so Gabe had to grab her before she swallowed too much water. She was soo scared. Looks like she needs a few swimming lessons.

The way back up the trail was tough to say the least.  It was a non stop uphill trek for a mile and half with each of us carrying an extra 30-40 pounds on our backs. We took two shortcuts that went steeper than the main trail because we were that desperate to be just be done. Those were soo hard, so steep, and we were glad to  reach the top. Our backs were killing us by the end.
She fell asleep on the way back up the trail...
We figured we had each burned about 800 calories. Gabe had an app on his phone that tracked our progress on the hike and the elevation and all. 800 ain't bad!
We headed back to our townhouse and cleaned up a bit, let the kids snack and put them down for naps. Kiel and Melissa took Bruce and Rhyan to the resort pool and we said we would catch up when the girls woke up...

Gabe forgot his swim shorts and I forgot my board shorts so on our way to the pool after the girls woke up, we stopped at three stores to see what they had for swimwear...

Resort stores are rediculous. Of course they are al name brand items. All the swim trunks for guys were around $70 and women's were about $40 on sale!! We bought some for me, but decided we would return them in the morning. It just wasn't worth spending that much for a pair of shorts and I decided I should just brave the post pregnancy body and not spend the money on covering myself up more than I needed to. Like Kiel said, I have had two kids. People will understand the chubby thighs and behind. =P
We didn't make it to the pool that evening because by the time we had left the stores and got the girls back in the car, Sophie had messed up her diaper and Sydney was being cranky, so we decided to head over to Incline Village and get some things at Raley's and just meet Kiel and Melissa back at the house.
What we hadn't realized is that we were the only ones with a key to the place, so when we were about 30 minutes from home, Kiel and Melissa were locked out of the house with Bruce and Rhyan.
We quickly bought our stuff and headed home. Melissa made dinner while we got the kids to bed and we decided to have Bruce and Sydney share the twin beds while Gabe and I and Sophie slept upstairs on the couch and floor and Sophie in the portacrib.
Sydney and Bruce played for an hour, jumping and laughing on the bed, but then finally fell asleep. They were tired for sure!
While we ate dinner, we played this super fun game that Melissa had brought. I forget the name of it. But the previous night we played Melissa and I vs. Gabe and Kiel. Melissa and I won. So this time we played couple vs couple. Gabe and I won the first game. Best of 2 out of three. We still haven't finished yet, so we'll see who the best couple is when we get the time to finish our game ;)
Sydney and Bruce didn't last long in the room. I walked in after hearing Sydney cry. Bruce was on the floor all wet from his diaper and Sydney, the loyal cousin, was sitting crying on the floor next to him. Bruce went back into his parents room and I stayed with Sydney in the room while Gabe stayed with Sophie upstairs. At least Gabe got some sleep this time. Sophie is such a good sleeper.
Friday morning, we said goodbye to the cozy little place we called home for two days. We packed up the kids, packed up all our stuff, cleaned up a bit and headed to the pool again!

I didn't get any pictures of Sydney and Sophie in the pools, but Sophie LOVED the water, Sydney, not so much. I think she was still scared from falling underwater at the lake. We stayed at the pool for a couple hours and just relaxed, which was so nice after a long night.
Around 1pm we headed to the lake near King's Beach and had a bbq. Kiel and Melissa brought a portable bbq and they grilled up hot dogs and burgers and we made a wonderful lunch and the kids had fun I think.

After lunch we stopped by a little ice cream shop, which had a sign on a wall that they had been featured on a Rachel Ray show, haha. Gabe got his now traditional triple scoop cone. Sydney kept holding her cone too low and eventually dropped her ice cream onto the ground and the nice cashier gave her another one...
I love Kiel's face in this picture... haha

Like father, like son...
After ice cream, we quickly went to turn in our keys, since they were due by 4pm, and then we headed home.
We arrived home around 7:30ish and couldn't have been more excited to sleep on a mattress in our own home and have the girls sleep in another room. haha.
It was such a fun trip and I wish it could have been longer if we could have slept better. I wouldn't have minded staying all week.

Thanks Kiel and Melissa for the fun trip!

"Here Bruce, how about some ice cream in your lap?"
