A Piano of Our Very Own

So I never thought we would own a piano, not for 20 years at least. But here is the beauty that belongs to us.
Our friend Virginia Walker has an older couple neighbor across the street from them who have been trying to get rid of their piano and they were even going to pay someone to take it off their hands. Well, I asked Virginia if they had found a place for it yet, and she called them and told them we were interested. And they said we could have it! I told them they didn't need to pay us. We would come and pick it up once we had a spot for it in our place.
The piano was built in the 1940s and they still had the "certificate of purchase" to give to us. The man's mother had finished paying it off in 1950. They have had this piano for over 60 years! And and it has some beautiful woodwork. The bench is the original bench and everything is still in excellent condition! The wood is still glossy and there are hardly any scratches on the wood. He hasn't played it in 35 years and it is just barely out of tune. They had it tuned 30 years ago. The only thing wrong with it is a couple keys stick so the hammers will have to be replaced or the velvet inside replaced, but seriously, paying for that is worth it. We didn't have to buy a piano and we were given a really beautiful one. I am trying to track down what this could be worth now, since it cost this man's mother $1400 in the 40s, its got to be worth a little more now, because $1400 in the 40s was a TON!. I am soo happy. Hopefully it will become a wonderful piece of furniture that will stay in the family. I have already played it a little and have had some friends over to practice a song that we are singing at the end of the month, and it just sounds wonderful! We are soo lucky!
