Working Mom For a Week

This past week I was able to help out at one of the offices where I had previously been employed. After having Sydney we decided that I would stay at home with her and Gabe would work. Since Gabe has had the past 3 weeks off for Summer Break, I was able to go help out for a week. Summer is a busy season, especially for Oral Surgery.
I was helping an elderly woman who had come in for a tooth to be extracted and she was physically disabled and did not walk well. The facility in which she lived dropped her off and would be back to pick her up when we were finished. Since her eye sight was also bad, I helped her fill out her medical history. We came to the part where it asks of Mental Health Problems and she said that she takes depression medication because the place in which she lives is so sad.
"I make a friend one day and soon after they die. That's why we are all there... to die." I looked at this woman and thought how lonely she much feel, just being in a place where there isn't much connection with the people around you, and when you finally meet someone to talk to, they go. "We call it God's Waiting Room," she said.
She was such a sweet lady. After receiving the Lidocaine before the tooth was to be extracted, I told her how well she did and that was the part that hurt the most, getting the numbing medicine. She laughed and said, "How ironic!" and laughed some more. I couldn't help but bust out laughing after I finally got what she was referring to, and we laughed together for a few minutes. At least she still has her sense of humor.
